How It Works

What’s the difference between SIL & STA?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an ongoing support arrangement for NDIS participants who live in a home (shared or individual) and require assistance or supervision with daily tasks so they can live as independently as possible. Supports under SIL include personal care, meals, household routines, skill-building and community access.
Short Term Accommodation (STA) is a temporary support option. It allows participants to stay in a safe, supported setting for a short period — for respite, a break, exploring living options, or building capacity. It does not replace their regular home or long‑term dwelling.
Simply put: SIL is about living support in your home over the long haul; STA is about short‑term stays with support, for breaks or transitions.

Can I choose who I live with?

Yes — one of the core principles of the NDIS is choice and control. When you access SIL services, we work with you to understand your preferences, goals, and who you might feel comfortable living with (or whether you prefer individual living). We strive to match you with housemates or arrangements that align with your lifestyle and preferences.

From the NDIA’s perspective, the support home must respect your rights, our registration and compliance obligations (such as the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Practice Standards) and your ability to build capacity.

At the same time, compatible living arrangements depend on many factors (support needs, availability, location) — we’ll work through those with you so you can have as much choice as possible.

What areas do you support?

We support participants in the following regions:

South‑East Queensland: Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Hervey Bay and surrounding areas
Northern New South Wales: Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Cabarita, Pottsville
South Australia: Adelaide Metropolitan, Adelaide Hills, South Fleurieu Peninsula
These are the regions where we have local teams, our homes or accommodation partnerships, and strong support networks.
Should your NDIS plan include a different region, we are happy to discuss opportunities and may be able to facilitate support through trusted partnerships.

How do I apply for STA or SIL?

Here’s how it works:

First, check your NDIS plan or talk with your Support Coordinator/Plan Manager to ensure you have the correct funding line for SIL or STA. SIL funding is considered under the Home & Living category (Assistance with Daily Life) and must meet the “reasonable and necessary” criteria.
For STA: You’ll need your plan to include a support line for short‑term accommodation/respite. Once you decide you’d like to use our services, we’ll discuss your goals, preferences, and check vacancy or availability.
We’ll complete a support agreement with you outlining the service, cost (within your plan funding), house rules or stay arrangements, and begin the planning & matching phase.
For SIL: Because it’s ongoing, we’ll conduct intake discussions, review your support needs, match you to a home or housemates (if shared), confirm supports, and complete the service agreement. The NDIA may require a roster of care to demonstrably show the support level needed.
At any stage, we’ll provide you with a clear explanation of how the service fits your plan, how supports will be delivered, your rights and responsibilities, and how you can exit or change services if required.

Do you help with transport & social activities?

Yes. In both SIL and STA support arrangements we incorporate community access, social inclusion, and transport supports as part of your personal support plan — where these are funded in your NDIS plan. For example:

Helping you attend community groups, training, employment, or social outings
Providing safe transport (or arranging it) as part of your daily living routines
In STA settings: organising activities or outings that match your interests during your stay
We will always review your plan to see what transport or social participation supports are included, build them into your house/STA support plan, and make sure they align with your goals. If your plan does not include transport or social activity supports, we’ll discuss how this might be requested in your next plan review.
